About Us

The badge might say 2026, but the legacy and story of Southend Rangers FC goes all the way back to our predecessor, Shoebury Athletic - Formed in 2016.

2016 - The Formation Of Shoebury Athletic YFC

In June 2016, The Idea Of Shoebury Athletic Was Born. After A Group Of Friends Were Left Without A Team, One Had The Idea Of Making Their Own, Run By Them So They Made The Decisions. This Proved To Be One Of The Only Youth Run Clubs and Has Now Progressed Further Than Expected. The Team Was Originally Just For The Friends So They Could Continue To Play Football Together The Next Season - And They Made The Decisions Within The Club Making It More Enjoyable For Them As They Knew What They Wanted. That Year, In September, The Team Played Their First Ever League Match Which Ended In An Opening Game Victory.

2018 - The Junior Expansion

After What Was A Very Successful Opening Season For The Club, Despite Not Winning Any Silverware - The Idea To Expand The Club And Make It A Project Came About. The Club Identified That There Was Numerous Youngsters Out In The Community Who were Subject To Boredom And Had A High Risk Of Getting Caught Up In The Rising Levels Of Crime In Our Area. The Idea: Give Them A Chance To Play Regularly And Keep Them Away From The Trouble. In 2017, The Junior Team Was Founded And They Started To Play Competitive Football From September The Next Season - Despite Being A Group Of Diverse Youngsters Of All Abilities.

2019 - The Adult Expansion

Soon After The Junior Team Expansion Came The Adult Team. Founded In 2019 The Adults Started Competitive Football In September 2019. The Founding Of The Adults Completed The SAFC Pathway, Meaning We Had Football On Offer For Anyone From The Ages Of 10. The Adults Had A Very Rocky Start To Life In Sunday League, Failing To Win In Over 1 Year Until Summer 2020 When They Got A Preseason Triumph, Winning 4-1 Away From Home. The Adults Continued To Battle On Until Covid Put A Stop To Everything.

2019 - First Silverware

After Many Seasons Of Being Competitive And Missing Out By Fine Margins, The Youth Brought A Trophy Home In Extraordinary Circumstances. With 3 Of The Junior Team Players Playing A Key Role In Securing A Hard Fought Victory In The Cup Final. A Long Time Coming And A Day To Remember In The History Of The Club.

2020 - The COVID Pandemic

COVID Proved A Big Challenge For The Club - Extended Periods Without Training, Matches, And Fundraising Placed Significant Financial And Operational Strain On The Club, While Many Players And Volunteers Were Unable To Continue Their Involvement. Despite Everyone's Efforts To Keep The Club Going, The Challenges Proved Too Great, And We Were Ultimately Forced To Fold. The Loss Of The Club Was Deeply Felt By Our Members, Who Had Benefited From The Opportunities, Friendships, And Sense Of Belonging It Provided For Many Years. After So Much Effort And Determination Had Been Put In During The Five Years Prior, It Was Hard-Hitting For Us To Cease At The Time.

2026 - The 10 Year Return

10 Years On From The Launch Of Shoebury Athletic FC, A Rebranded Club Was Launched And Sits Here Today Ready To Take On New Challenges And Support Our Community In New Ways. We Have Ambitious Plans And Goals And Aim To Open As Many Teams And Reach As Many People As Possible.

To Celebrate We Launched The Club With Our New Initiative - THE CHARITY TROPHY. A Yearly Event That Gives Our Members The Opportunity To Play At A Professional Stadium, Whilst Raising Money For Close To Home Charities.
